It serves as an important water catchment area, with rivers that supply Nairobi and nearby regions originating from this forest. The forest is made up of indigenous montane vegetation, including tree species such as cedar, podo, and camphor. It supports a range of wildlife, including monkeys, bushbucks, and many native bird species
